Myrtle Cecilia (Stone) Whitty
October 9, 1926 - March 20, 2024
Whitty, Myrtle Cecilia (Stone) - Cecilia passed away peacefully at her home in St. Peter’s, C.B, N.S. on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024.
She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Lawrence (Laurie) Whitty and her youngest son, Robert Whitty.
Cecilia was born in the small village of Sampsonville, just outside of St. Peter’s and was the daughter of George and Charlotte (Landry) Stone. In her early years Cecilia moved to Halifax to find work. It was there that she met a handsome young Navy man, her husband to be Laurie Whitty. Laurie built a family home, and they married in November 1948. They had two sons, Leonard Daniel, and Robert Arthur.
When Laurie retired, he built a house in St. Peter’s and moved his wife Cecilia and their boys back to her childhood home, where they both lived, and were active and loved members of their community until their deaths.
Leonard met and married Maureen (Carter) Whitty and they settled nearby in Sampsonville, where they raised Cecilia and Laurie’s cherished grandchildren, Serena (Marc Rapitta), Linden (Amy Sutherland Whitty), and Holly.
She was blessed with three step-great-grandchildren, Crystal (deceased), Kyle (Ashley Toogood), and Sandra Fraser and three beautiful biological great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lincoln, and William, whom she loved and was adored by.
Cecilia is survived by her sister, Lorraine Rouleau and pre-deceased by siblings, Gertrude, Margaret, infant twins at birth, Herman, Russell, Florence, Daniel, Germaine, Arthur, Leo, and Isabell. Special thoughts to her godson Clarence (Joyce) Landry and her many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Cecilia was a shining light to her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
We would like to thank her caregivers for their kindness and compassion for her and our family over the past year, as well as all the home care and Nursing support workers and the staff at Straight Richmond and St. Martha’s Hospitals.
The family would also like to thank her family and friends, who were always there to support and uplift her through the years and especially this past year. You were all amazing and she loved having you visit and call. There are just too many to list.
Arrangements for her interment and service will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
