With great sadness, we the family of Dolena Isabel MacKinnon,
announce her passing on, Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the An Cala
Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital,
Sydney. Dolena was Born in East Skye Glen, Inverness County
to the late John Murdock and Annie Catherine (MacPhee)
MacInnis.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Rosaire), Jimmie
(Kathleen), Cathy (Werner); her grandchildren, Crista, Robby, Andrew,
Angie, Emily (Robert MacDonald); great-grandchildren, Archie Duncan,
and Rosie Jane MacDonald; sisters, Jessie (late Lauchie) MacKinnon,
Edna (late Gordon) MacLennan, Janet (late Angus) Scott, and Willena
(Peter) Parker; brother, Jackie (Marie) MacInnis, sister-in-law, Laura
Bell MacInnis, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Hector MacKinnon; sisters, Mae (late Neil) MacKay, Margaret (late
Neil) Campbell, Laura MacInnis, Shirley Morrison, Phyllis (late DJ)
Ferguson; brothers, Murdock MacInnis, Stewart MacInnis, Morrison
MacInnis, brother in infancy; brother-in-law, Jackie Morrison;
sister-in-law, June MacInnis; nephews, Sheldon MacKay, Graham MacKay;
niece, Deborah MacInnis; grandnephew, Jason Campbell; and grandniece,
Ally MacLennan.
Dolena was a long-time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian
Church, and the Atlantic Mission Society. She was also a
member of the Bayville Seniors Club where she enjoyed the company of
good friends. Her happiest moments were spent in the company
of her beloved family, and many joyful get-togethers with her
siblings. It gave Dolena great pleasure to welcome the many
visitors into her home over the years; she was kindhearted and
selfless always putting others before herself.
Dolena’s family wish to express sincere gratitude
to the staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton
Regional Hospital for the kind and compassion care of our
mother. The visitation will be from 2-9 p.m., Saturday,
August 6, 2022 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel,
Whycocomagh. Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday,
August 7, 2022 in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh with
Margie MacIntyre, LLWL officiating. Burial to follow at
Stewartdale Cemetery, Churchview.
