Parker, Joseph "Joe" Henry – Canso,
Guysborough Co., age 83 years. The family of the late Joseph
"Joe" Parker Sr. wishes to announce his passing on Monday,
January 10, 2022 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Joe was born in
Canso; a son of the late Robert Gabriel and Florence Genevieve Gerloch
(Fanning) Parker, both of whom were from Canso.
In Joe’s younger days he worked in Ontario in a
factory. He spent many years with the Canadian Coast Guard; from there
he took up inshore fishing. After that he sailed on the trawlers and
then went to Mersey Seafoods and sailed on the Venture until he
retired in his seventies. He was a dedicated member of the Canso Loins
Club and loved the card plays. He dearly loved spending time with his
little Dolly and the rest of his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Joe loved his gardening, his mackerel fishing and
of course his wood pile. He was loved by all who knew him and will be
deeply missed.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Stella
(Casey), Yellow Marsh; son, Joseph (Deanna), Yellow Marsh; daughters,
Mary (John), Yellow Marsh; Patricia (Dwayne), Ottawa, ON;
grandchildren, Joeigh, Halifax; Alicia (Brooke), Canso; Zachary
(Robyn), D’escousse; Shawn (Sloane) and Jeff (Sadie) all of
Ottawa, ON; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Canso; Novalee,
D’escousse; Liam, Jeremy and Ava all of Ottawa,
ON; sisters, Anita (Raymond), Hamilton, ON; Carolyn (Bill), Truro;
brothers, Don (Lilly), Hamilton, ON; Patrick (Leah), NB;
George, Yellow Marsh; Gerry (Jelly) and Perry (Marg), Brian (Carol)
all of Canso; sister-in-law, Anna, Canso. Many nieces and nephews who
all loved him very much. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by
his daughter who died at birth, Diane Marie; brothers, Robert
"Turk"; Hughie and Terry, and by his canine buddy,
Sage.
Special thanks to Eastern Memorial Hospital for the excellent
care they gave him while he was in hospital and Dr. Dobek for the
special care he gave.
Visitation will be held 2-7 p.m. Friday, January 14 in Canso
Lions Club. Funeral Mass will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, January
15 in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with
Father Charles Cameron officiating. Burial at a later
date.
