SYLLIBOY, Lawrence Joseph "Larry"
– Age 70, We’koqma’q
First Nation, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, in the An Cala
Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck on October 13, 1951, he was the son of the late
William Noel and Janet Christine (Bernard) Sylliboy.
Larry was a member of Saint Kateri Parish and belonged to
Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q and
where he was the caretaker for many years after the passing of his
father. He belonged to the We’koqma’q
Elder Council. Larry was an avid Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue
Jays fan. He was a landscaper for many years for
We’koqma’q Band. Larry enjoyed his cruises to
Dooley’s for some gambling and also enjoyed watching Wheel
of Fortune, Jeopardy, Price Is Right, watching the news and weather,
sports and local politics. The family would like to extend a thank you
to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital,
Sydney.
Larry is survived by his children, Kasonnio "Gus"
Patton, Mary (Phillip) Prosper, Paul Sylliboy; grandchildren, Rutsira,
Anenationtha, Kanerahtano "Ron", Aronhia "Hawe";
great-grandchild, Teioranhiathe "ton"; Mary and
Phillip’s children, Brittany, Devon, Logan, Cole, Jacoby and
Addison; sisters, Mildred Narvey, Marie Sylliboy; Dorothy Googoo;
Sarah Sylliboy, Connie (Lindsay), Freda; brother, John J.; aunt,
Catherine Bernard; numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous
grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased
by sisters, Alexandrine, Christina, Linda Mae and Marilyn; brothers,
Bernie, James, Baby Noel; brothers-in-law, Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy,
Ryan C. Googoo, Cecil Condo, Harry Narvey, Franklin Mitchell; nephews,
Mickey, Trevor, Wayne, Curt; nieces, Gloria, Tina,
Rachel.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the
We’koqma’q Community Centre, 15 Reservation Rd.,
We’koqma’q. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30
a.m. on Saturday from Blessed Kateri Holy Trinity Roman Catholic
Church, We’koqma’q with Father Conrad Edwards
officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Proof of double
vaccination is required for the visitation and funeral mass. Please
have it with your photo ID ready before you arrive for both.
