It is with broken hearts that we announce the loss of our
wife, mother, sister, niece and friend, Johnena Marie (Gillis)
MacFadyen, born in Mabou April 6th, 1967. Johnena slipped away
peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday,
November 16th 2021. Johnena and James' working careers sent
them to Thompson, Manitoba then to the Annapolis Valley, and finally,
back home to their beloved Cape Breton. Johnena spent the last 20
years of her working career in the court system; a field which she
surely loved. Always on the side of the underdog and the less
fortunate, she was loved by all whom she encountered and the world is
a better place because of her spirit. Johnena was a loving mother,
fiercely supportive of her children and all of her family
members. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
You did not leave her kitchen hungry, and no child left her
door without a scarf and warm mittens on a cold day. She was the
prettiest/loudest hockey Mom to ever grace the inside of a cold arena.
Johnena could light up a room with her humble beauty, her hearty laugh
and her love of a funny story, and she could tell a story! Johnena has
left us far too early but she will live on forever in the souls of her
children. Johnena leaves behind to celebrate her life, her soulmate
and husband of 31 years, James, her beautiful children, Haley and
Harrison, both at home. Sisters, Mary Annette (Paul), Roxanne
(Ronnie), Danita (Aaron), and brother Kevin
(Carolann).
She was predeceased by mother Rita, and father John Dan
Gillis, brothers Wade as well as Peter and Darcy in infancy. Memorial
donations can be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or
L'Arche Cape Breton.
Visitation will be from 2-9pm on Sunday, November 21st at
Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral services will
be Monday November 22nd at St. David's United Church at 2pm with Sandi
Irving DLM and Father Denny MacLennan officiating. Burial to
follow in Clough Cemetery, Port
Hastings. Please note to attend
visitation and funeral you will need proof of double vaccines and face
masks are also required to attend both.
